Background

The Co-production of Climate Services for East Africa (CONFER) is an EU-funded programme to strengthen, support and further develop the required technical and climate knowledge, as well as practical skills, to sustain production, implementation, use and uptake of the climate science and services at ICPAC, national meteorological agencies and stakeholder organizations, through training and capacity building of appropriate actors. In line with this goal, ICPAC and partners are organizing a regional WRF-Hydro training to build the capacity of national stakeholders in flood early warning. The course targets hydro-meteorology professionals from countries in East Africa.

Course Content

The course covers relevant topics to ensure that participants gain practicals skills which includes the following;

  • Introduction to Python for hydro-meteorological data analysis and visualization
  • Installation of both coupled and uncoupled WRF-Hydro systems
  • Acquisition of global model outputs and reanalysis for model initial and boundary conditions
  • WRF-Hydro GIS pre-processing
  • Basin, national and regional applications of WRF-Hydro
  • Post-processing of streamflow outputs using Python
  • Multi-parameter calibration in WRF-Hydro
