The SDG 6 IWRM Community of Practice (CoP) facilitates information, experience and resource sharing between integrated water resources management (IWRM) practitioners around the world, to improve IWRM implementation at the global, regional, national, and sub-national levels. It is initiated by the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, which assists countries in reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.1 to identify the challenges for advancing IWRM; to turn these challenges into opportunities through IWRM Action Plans; and to implement these Action Plans in order to measurably advance both SDG target 6.5 and many other related SDG targets. The Support Programme is coordinated by Global Water Partnership (GWP) in collaboration with UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net and under the guidance of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

The objectives of the SDG 6 IWRM CoP are:

  • To share and learn from experiences, knowledge and news from the sub-national to global levels, on the challenges and opportunities of IWRM implementation, as well as innovative approaches and lessons learned.

  • To foster partnership and relationship building between community members and facilitate peer-to-peer support.

  • To activate learning opportunities and guidance, through interactive activities and opportunities such as online events and consultations, that engage IWRM practitioners on how to successfully employ an IWRM approach with innovative and creative thinking

Who is it for?

The SDG 6 IWRM CoP is open to any IWRM practitioners interested in exchanging on how to advance on IWRM implementation around the world. Specifically, SDG 6.5.1 Focal Points, Focal Points and other officials from national and sub-national governments working on all water-related SDGs (including but also going beyond SDG 6), NGOs, civil society, the private sector, academia and international organisations are welcome to join this CoP.

SDG 6 IWRM Community of Practice Charter

Thank you for being part of our SDG 6 IWRM community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

By joining and using these community spaces, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and shared files and content with the community in which it is meant to be utilised.

Below are a few rules and guidelines on how to act appropriately in the Community to guarantee a positive environment and constructive and democratic exchanges.

  1. Keep it friendly. Every post should make a positive contribution. The SDG 6 IWRM Community is open to all points of view on the intended topics; mature, polite debate is encouraged. Attacks or cyber-bullying will not be tolerated. The Communities are meant to stimulate conversation and trigger the exchange of best practices, not to create contention. Contradictory opinions are of course welcomed, but should always be thoughtful and respectful, rather than emotional, impulsive, or anger-driven.

  1. Use clear language. Avoid using abbreviations and acronyms without clarifications. Aim to make experts and non-experts benefit from your input.

  1. Write succinctly to get your point across more effectively. Include a link to external content when appropriate.

  1. Keep the focus on the thematic area of the community. The Community is dedicated to the topic of SDG 6.5.1 and to facilitate knowledge exchange on the IWRM process in a country. It is not a place to share general news or for political debate.

  1. Share information and resources that are useful and informative to other members. Be careful not to offend sensibilities or invade the privacy of others.

  1. Do not interrupt someone else’s discussion thread to change the topic or request support for a different issue. If you have a different issue, find the appropriate discussion thread, or email the moderators with a specific concern.

  1. Racial, discriminatory, or ethnic slurs, aggressive language, profanity, threats, or language that is offensive to other cultures, groups, or religions are not tolerated.

  1. Be honest, be yourself. The Community is intended to be used for the helpful exchange of information between Members. False, inaccurate, or otherwise misleading information is not helpful. Please be sincere in your participation by only contributing content you know is accurate. Be mindful to respect the "closed" environment of GWP’s online communities and do not forward messages to non-members.

Thank you and we appreciate your adherence to these guidelines.
