27.11.2012: Irrigation, drought management and IWRM in Central Asia

GWP Central Asia and Caucasus shares two case studies discussing best practices in irrigation agriculture and drought management using IWRM approaches. Read case study No. 434 and case study No. 435.



14.11.2012: Contribute to GWP knowledge products

GWP Technical Committee invites other experts to be involved in the development of knowledge products. Go to CONTRIBUTE and find the current GWP publications that are under preparation.

 



12.11.2012: Water and Nature Initiative case studies

Two case studies from West Africa No. 429 and No. 430 present the Water and Nature Initiative - a program of IUCN. Both case studies discuss transboundary cooperation in Komadugu Yobe (Niger and Nigeria) and Volta River (Ghana and Burkina Faso).



25.10.2012: Rural water supply in schools
Case study No. 427 describes a community project targeted in awareness raising in schools in rural areas in Romania. See more also in tools B1.9 and C4.3 for raising awareness initiatives.

17.10.2012:Participatory approaches in Venezuela
A new case study No. 426 from the State Carabobo in Venezuela in English and Spanish discusses participatory approaches in watershed management.

1.10.2012: ToolBox workshop with universities
Read the report from the IWRM ToolBox workshop attended by university lecturers that practice IWRM teaching. The activity will continue to bring more lecturers to benefit from IWRM ToolBox resources.

10.8.2012: UN Water Convention User Guide

User`s Guide to the UN Watercourses Convention (2012) is now available here. The Guide provides an “article-by-article” explanation of each provision and its potential application. 8.8.2012: IWRM training manual in Mekong Basin

Visit tools B2.2 or C4.1 and find a Manual for Training Trainers in IWRM in the Mekong Basin. The manual builds on GWP Toolbox and was developed from essential knowledge sources of GWP, INBO, Mekong River Commission and UNESCO-IHP Program.



5.8.2012: Dniester basin case study

Read a case study No. 425 sent by GWP Moldova about colaboration of Ukraine and Moldova at a transboudnary basin of Dniester. 



20.7.2012: UN Water Status Report

The Status Report on the application of IWRM Management was launched in Rio+20 Conference (jun 2012). Go to section ToolBox Partners/UN-Water and download the report. The development of the report was supported by GWP.



13.07.2012: Revised tools on financing

The cost of water investment needs to be financed. Find tools A3 (Investment and Financing Structure) together with A3.1, A3.2, A3.3, and A3.4 that address financing challenges in water resources sector. The tools C7 (C7.1, C7.2, C7.3, and C7.4) regarding economic instruments were also revised.



10.07.2012: Transboundary groundwater management plans
Experiences from drafting groundwater management plan at transboundary basin are discussed in case study No. 421. Project conducted by Hungarian and Slovak geological services.

6.6.2012: Water and Green Economy

Read a new Perspectives Paper on Water and the Green Economy that is intended to galvanise discussion within the GWP network and the larger water and development community. Your input is essential.

Read a new GWP Technical Commiittee Background Paper No. 16 on Integrated Urban Water Management.

 



25.5.2012: Investments to IWRM in China

Two case studies from China (No. 419 and No. 420) analyze investments projects supporting IWRM approaches. In addition to investments in infrastructure, both projects emphazise on soft measures, such as stakeholders involvement, capacity building, and social impact assessment. A contributor of these case study is Asian Development Bank.



9.5.2012: Wetland management and vulnerability reduction

Read experience from implementation of IWRM plan in Playitas - Moyua - Tecomapa wetland in Nicaragua, case study No. 417 (in Spanish) was sent by GWP Central America. Visit also tool C9.5 (vulnerability assessment).



2.5.2012: Measures to adaptation to climate change in Costa Rica

A case study No. 416 from Costa Rica shows that sound water management measures support to increase resilience to climate change. Read in Spanish.



16.4.2012: Jamaica`s experience of water utility reform
GWP-Caribbean presents case study No. 415 dealing with water sector reform.

11.4.2012: World Water Development Report 2012

The UN World Water Development Report, released every three years in conjunction with the World Water Forum, is the UN’s flagship report on water. The fourth Report (2012) focuses entirely on Managing Water under Uncertainty and Risk, launched at the 6th WWF in Marseille (March 2012).



23.3.2012: IWRM process in the Bahamas

This case study No. 414 presents experiences of application of IWRM approaches in the Bahamas.



14.3.2012: INBO/GWP Handbook II
How then to move from theory to practice to implement transboundary cooperation on water? INBO, GWP together with other knoweldge partners (UNECE, UNESCO, GEF, EVREN and AFD) have worked together to produce the second book on IWRM in transboundary presented at the World Water Forum in Marseilles (March 2012). 3.3.2012: Restoration of river ecosystem

GWP Lativa with its partners implemented practical methods to restore river ecosystem in small rivers. Involvement of local farmers and other stakeholders is discussed in details. Read case study No. 412.



13.2.2012: Survey on ToolBox use

We wish to collect feedback from the IWRM ToolBox users on what to improve in the ToolBox and how. Between February and April 2012, fill out our questionnaire (16 simple questions) in order to help us improving the quality and relevance of the knowledge and information of the IWRM ToolBox.  Go to the Survey now. 31.1.2012: Model of water supply and sanitation in rural areas

A case study No. 411 discusses an innovative system of water supply and sanitation in rural areas in Ceara State of Brazil.



18.1.2012: Participatory management of water resources

A case study from Venezuela No. 410 shows the benefits of community involvement in solving conflicts of water supply and sewage disposal.



03.01.2012: Output based subsidies

Case study No. 409 presents the role of the domestic private sector in the delivery of urban
