Description / Abstract

One important issue has been the inadequate attention to groundwater management within the reforms towards an IWRM approach. Yet a fundamental observation of IWRM is that water is one (interlinked) resource requiring a holistic approach to management and hence groundwater should be fully incorporated. After a series of case studies in Africa and some pilot training courses, Cap-Net, the Africa Groundwater Network (AGW-Net) and GWMATE (Ground Water Management Advisory Team) have collaborated to produce these training materials on groundwater management. An important objective of these materials is to address groundwater in the IWRM perspective. The goal of the course is to introduce the broader framework of groundwater management to groundwater experts and the specific challenges of groundwater management to other water professionals.
