Description / Abstract

This chapter of the book "Sustainable Management of a Scarce Resource" reviews possibilities for translating customary water arrangements and water laws into sound water legislation. It provides, where possible, some case studies to highlight success stories and/or lessons learned in water management. Furthermore, there is a broad discussion of what may constitute the core of water legislation. At the end, some conclusions and recommendations are drawn to facilitate legislative processes.
